Weedle Weedle Weedle to launch today

March 4th, 2010 by Jason Roe

Weedle

Weedle

Weedle the new job search thing is due to launch later today. I was at the Weedle preview last night and it looked kind of cool :)

Basically  Weedle are another social network but are a mixture of a golden pages and a social network.  Think of it as a slicker linkedin where you can quite easily see what individual to use for a task/skill based on your Weedle network.

For example, if everyone I know on Weedle uses the same physiotherapist and I go looking for a physiotherapist, Weedle factor this into the search. Its kind of a smart way to find useful people for useful stuff.

I had a ton of questions about reviews, ratings, weightings of results that the team were more than happy to talk about. The Weedle team seemed to have an answer for nearly everything we through at them!

So pop over to Weedle.com later today and check them out.

Artcamp Dublin, Spring 2010

November 24th, 2009 by Jason Roe

artcamp

I’ve managed to get involved with helping to organise another barcamp. We have done barcamps, bizcamps and all that jazz, now its time for Artcamp. The main idea being to help bridge the divide between the artist and technology community. Both artists and technology community have a lot in common and even more learn from each other. Now seems like a great time to start creating, innovating and collaborating in new and exciting ways. Read the rest of this entry »

Meteor Broadband working on Ubuntu

April 6th, 2009 by Jason Roe

Meteor broadband to goI was interested to find out how to get Meteor Broadband to go working on Ubuntu. I found a number of threads on forums about the topic, but no one had found the answer yet.

Meteor don’t pitch this product as supported on Ubuntu / Linux.. but I found a number of blog/forum posts that suggest that the Huawei E180 usb modem used by Meteor works out of the box. The real question was .. once you had the device recognised, what configuration did you need to get it to work?

I offered €50.00 of my hard earned coffers to the person who could tell me how to get  Meteor Broadband to go working (naively) on the Huawei E180 in Ubuntu.

Update .. I got it working!!

I hope this is of help to someone else.. Read the rest of this entry »

Webby / Blogger / Whatever – meet up, in review

November 28th, 2008 by Jason Roe

I would like to say a big thanks to everyone who turned out last night for our meet-up. I was taken back by the number of people actually who showed! There was a good mix of new and old faces, we must have had about 18-20 people show up. If anyone has any photos please send them over.

We hope to do another official meet-up on the 16th of Jan, more details to follow. That said, I will be meeting up with people some time in Dec too. Invite only, sorry guys!

On another note, as the Geansai Gorm competition is nearing a close, bluejumperireland.com has joined forces with the recently banned bluejumperirish.com site (in an attempt to pool some link juice resources). Also, as part of our newly invented blogger foreign exchange programme.. I will be joining in as one of the first contributors on “This Week on Irish Blogs” from Roger Galligan (aka IrishBlogs.ie)

Tweet tweet SMS twiter to your phone

August 26th, 2008 by Jason Roe

Yesterday I had the pleasure of helping Donncha O Caoimh out by contributing to the Wordpress Tweet Tweet plugin.

I added support for vodafone.ie free texts. You can now receive a SMS message (via vodafone.ie free text) when someone sends you a reply or direct message.

Try out the plugin and let us  know what you think!

August 18th, 2008 by Jason Roe

ifood.tv Site seemed to be down after a pitch on the Dragons den? The site seems to be hosted by Layered Technologies, Inc. Might as well host in the USA :)

What the dragons said was correct .. its http://ifoods.tv/ not ifood.tv

Strange thing is ive been to the site many times and mixed this up! Time to buy ifood.tv or move domains guys!

ps: I seen you read this from your webmail.

Cheap Solid State Drive, DIY SSD from €180

July 16th, 2008 by Jason Roe

I had a bit of a brainwave today. I started looking into using SD cards in an array that could be used as a cheap solid state drive. With the price of SD memory dropping it seemed like a sensible alternative to expensive drives on the market.

On my travels I bumped into a nice bit of kit that allows you to create a do it yourself SSD Drive (SATA in Raid0 or Raid5) with 3 Compact Flash cards. Read the rest of this entry »

Free WIFI Internet Dublin!

January 22nd, 2008 by Jason Roe

Ok we have all been hearing about this free WIFI internet extravaganza that’s going to hit Dublin in September. The idea seemed to be great! well in theory anyway.

So then the whole project gets railroaded by the tel-co’s via the euro commissioner (or so it seems). Yada Yada .. Then yesterday, I see a call from the Dublin chamber of Commerce saying that they want to kick start Dublin with wi-fi on transport. Are they talking about trains and buses?

PS: I love your attempt at the VAT free pc’s lads!

This all leaves me a little bit confused, does anyone know what the hell is going on with this free WI-FI lark??

Talk about a republic of misinformation!
