I normally don’t do fluff but here we go!
“We’ve examined the mobile web landscape. We’ve covered four approaches to developing for it. Our discussion now shifts from that of concept to one of execution.”
“Truphone routes your mobile calls via the internet. That means free mobile calls to other Truphone users and very cheap calls to anyone else.”
“With a typical HTML page, you can use the URL to differentiate between multiple pageviews. But in an AJAX application, a request to the server is made without changing the URL of the page..”
“You might have noticed that Digg has a cool way of maintaining clean URLs. Digg actually uses LAMP. But where are the .php extensions?..”Â

Mobile web design – nice link.
I really believe give it a year or two and this space is going to be hot (of course hat is ready to be eaten
)
I would predict the middle of next year with the added push of WAP premium SMS services. My guess is that it will start with that “Adult market.
Now to look at how to optimise SEO for WAP enabled sites!
Yeah porn is going to be big.
I’m in touch with a US SEO who is actively promoting mobile sites – he’s going to be giving me feedback on his experiences.
Of course nothing will take off here for at least a decade as the MOs rape us for as much cash as possible
If someone will pay 2 euro for a ringtone then they will fork out 60c for some WAP pages! That’s my thoughts on it anyway.. The issue is the informational based sites in Ireland are of no value.. We need services that highlight the functions & benefits of WAP pages.
The other issue is that no one in Ireland has found a good way to make decent money out of a WAP only service. This is starting to change!
Flat rate data will drive this. That’s what’s happening in UK (even though it’s ‘flat rate’ 1Gb per month). Of course we could be waiting a while…
Something like BEBO on mobile and you might be talking
Do to you know of anyone in Ireland who’s copped on to mobile? I know a couple of premium adult services who will probably move into this space all right, but no one ‘normal’.
It’s tough to call. The BeBo thing was first to my mind. A small app or site where you can check your BeBo messages/comments and other social networking sites. It’s how to monetize that’s the problem.
I htink we’ll see a huge shift with the uptake of the iPhone.
The advantage of a services like this would be the fact that you could bill for accounts via premium SMS. Would anyone use it? Who knows!
I had an idea for a simple service track your SEO stats, tie in WAP and SMS to track a webmasters seo results. It might be good for a hardcore SEO, however you may be limited in your market!
Good idea, but you’re right, your market would be too limited.
The 16-24 demographic don’t want to have to go somewhere and use a CC to pay for a service. A one time premium SMS fee would be ideal. Or even a cost per notification model.
Thing is, if you were to have a BEBO notification application notification system and it took off, BEBO could just make their own.
They haven’t released an API for a reason I reckon.
